I used to say that I hate nature which is humorous looking even at just the last few posts on this short-lived blog. Growing up in a place where everyone loved the outdoors and could run/bike/hike/canoe/ski year-round forced me into some sort of reverse-rebellion thing where I found true solace not among the trees but with the old furniture and dead spiders of my basement. Indoors = air conditioning.
Anyhoo, I’ve come a long way after having lived in a city for several years. Now, I appreciate nature and all the disgusting things that come along with it. Not only do I enjoy being outside and sweaty for days at a time, I start my own fires! I hike on purpose! (Admittedly, those were my mom’s boots). But I didn’t use a sink for three days! I am outdoorsy!
Fellow city-folk and Best Cool Aunt Duo in the History of Cool Aunt Duos Maureen and Annice had planned a weekend to Rocky Mountain National Park several months ago. I couldn't not be a part of their first experience with elk bugling season so I surprised them by showing up for the trip too (I also was craving s'mores pretty bad).
It was the weekend of the Supermoon/Harvest moon and its light at night was magical. And wonder of wonders—we woke up to elk a mere twenty feet outside our tent Sunday morn. (!!!)
Oh, and if anyone is interested, Woody compiled a grand playlist with contributions from everyone on his new Spotify account. From to John Denver (obviously) to Jar of Hearts (less obviously), it's got everything you need for a camping weekend.
